Knuckles is the guardian of the floating island and the chaos emeralds. He was once tricked by Robotnik into fighting against Sonic but after learning the truth helped Sonic destroy the Death Egg and now allows the Emerald Hill Folk take shelter in the Mushroom Hill Zone after Robotnik swore to kill everyone in that Zone for allowing Sonic to hide there.
